A day of horseback riding to discover the shores of Lake Aureilhan, culminating at the beach at sunset. The route follows ridgelines offering stunning views of the vast Landes forest and its unexpectedly dramatic natural dunes. Explore the coastline, the pond, and the Tirelagüe marshes. Continue through the high moorland to Lake Aureilhan, following the banks and the river. Enjoy a meal in the heart of nature alongside the free-roaming horses. The day concludes with a ride on the beach, including one or two canters at sunset, before returning to the stables. This horseback riding excursion is also offered by equestrian travel agencies worldwide, guaranteeing its quality. English may be spoken during the trip.

Characteristics

Duration: 1 day. Possibility of arriving the day before.

Age admittance: From age 15. Teenagers aged 13 if accompanied and having a minimum level of galop 4.

Level required: A minimum of a 3/4 canter is required, or riders must be comfortable at all three gaits and able to manage speed and direction while cantering independently.
This ride requires riders with a minimum of a 3 canter level and a reasonable level of fitness. The pace is brisk, with frequent trots and canters, allowing riders to cover an average of 35 km per day in approximately 6 hours of riding. Cantering is generally done individually or in pairs, whether in the forest or on the beach, allowing riders to control their speed. A group for less experienced riders may be formed, with a shorter route and safer sections for cantering.

Group size: Minimum 3 riders and maximum 8 people

Monitoring and Safety rules: The tours are led by qualified guides with A.T.E., CQP ASA or BPJEPS Equestrian Tourism qualifications, who have extensive knowledge of the Landes region and are eager to share it with you. They also speak English.

Aureilhan Coast and Lake

Meet at the equestrian center to share coffee or tea and a warm croissant with the other participants. Meet the team and get acquainted with the horses. After preparing your mount, ride in the arena to get acquainted with your horse. Horse changes are possible if needed.

Depart for a 2.5-hour horseback ride. Discover the Landes coastline with sweeping views of the Landes forest and the Atlantic Ocean in the background. Explore the Tirelagüe pond and marshes where the horses drink. Continue riding through the high moorland to Lake Aureilhan. Ride along the lake’s shores and stop by the river for a picnic where the horses can roam freely. Enjoy lunch in the open air, followed by a well-deserved nap.

Forest Ridges and Sunset

Horseback riding activities resume depending on the time of year. Horses are prepared for a 2-3 hour ride. The ride follows the riverbanks and then back into the forest, traversing ridges that offer beautiful views of the vast forest and its unexpectedly dramatic natural dunes. The route continues towards the beach, culminating in one or two canters at sunset before returning to the stables. Arrival time varies depending on the time of year and the length of the days. Transfers are then made to the guesthouse or hotel for those staying overnight.

Dates

Customized tours are available with a minimum departure time of 2 people. Departures are possible every day throughout the year, subject to availability, except during July and August when the tour is postponed to Wednesdays.
