Horseback Riding in the Pyrenean mountains : Basque country and Atlantic beaches – 2026
- Level : upper intermediate
- Possibility to come with your horse : No
- Non-rider companions allowed : No
” This trek is sold by many French and European equestrian travel agencies, a guarantee of seriousness and competence, so you should expect that the English language will also be practiced throughout the stay. “. Eusko Trek Located along the Atlantic coast, split between France and Spain, the Basque country offers you a stunning combination of lush forests, verdant hills and slopes, windy beaches and rocky cliffs plunging into the Atlantic Ocean. A horse trek with a bird-eye view over the stunning scenery is very handy to discover this area proudly perched on the coastline, sporadically embellished with traditional fishing villages. Consider this trek as a 4-day getaway from civilization. If not, where else could you bump into herds of wild horses grazing freely in the high mountain pastures. Named “Potokka”, a breed of pony or horse native exclusively to the Basque Country, these proud animals in the wild are fiercely safeguarded by a brave stallion. Deemed one of the oldest nation on Earth, barely changed over centuries, the Basques are often misunderstood because they have been openly reclaiming their independence from France and Spain since forever, it seems. Get to know the nation remaining true to their identity, their rich culture, delicious cuisine and you will forever be in love with them. With a daily mileage, exceeding 30-35 km in 6-7 hours, be ready for an exciting and yet a challenging trek that requires a good level of fitness and much confidence. While moving on varying terrains there will occur few rugged sections difficult to ride on, so that we ask our equestrians to dismount from their horse and to cover such spans of route on-foot with the horse by the bridle. For the rest of the trek, you can feel free to canter or to trot at your will, as our horses are fit, willing and sure-footed. When in Rome do as the Romans do. When in the Basque country, after a lavish meal in an unfettered atmosphere have a short siesta. You will be served local specialties generously cooked by the owners of 2* accommodations that we come across the route. Feel blessed! On the way, we stop in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, a picturesque town strategically located on Santiago de Compostella, a famous pilgrim route. Worth visiting by walking, its cobbled streets with the main artery running from the 15th century Porte St-Jacques to the Porte d’Espagne offer a handful of shops selling anything you might have ever dreamed to buy and restaurants with decent pilgrim menus. One of such will be chosen as a dinner place. Cooled by flavorsome breezes, the endless coast of New Aquitaine invites a gallop along the sandy beach at full throttle or a dip in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Thanks voor the great riding week again! Although the group of riders were not my favorites, I really enjoyed the horse riding, the environment and your hospitaillity! I.ve done about 15 trail now, but I think you have the best and nicest horses I’ve ever ridden.
I cant’t wait to reseive the pictures Anne made on the beach.
Rita Garrison –
Thanks Michele and Annette for a wonderful riding holiday. I can’t say enough good things about this trip, the professionalism, the horses, the scenery, the accommodation and food …all 5 star. In addition to having fun I learned so much from Michel that’s helped to improve my riding. I will never forget you and this amazing trip. Thank you!!

Annette & Michel,
Between 2 hikes I hope you will take the time to read this email.
You sell dream so well that I wonder if you could not be a magician and a magician.
This hike was for me (and without going forward, not only for me) out of the ordinary.
You may not have this recoil or the time to realize it but it’s really fantastic, unreal. A human and chivalrous adventure that goes far beyond our daily lives. It can become a drug!
As Mireille said, it’s engraved for life.
I’m still in …
Thank you simply
